Gustavo Petro will be the next president of Colombia. His victory in the second round this Sunday, June 19, brings the left to power for the first time in the country’s history.
The candidate of the Historical Pact has prevailed with 50.50% of the votes, compared to 47.16% of businessman Rodolfo Hernández, with 97% counted.
The victory represents a change never seen in the history of Colombia. Francia Márquez will be the next vice president, the first African-American, feminist, to occupy the second most important position in the country.
Iván Duque Márquez, current president, will hand over the presidency to Gustavo Petro.
