On February 16, Nicolás Maduro and Gustavo Petro held a meeting on the Venezuelan border, where a trade agreement was signed between the two nations. The Colombian president then reiterated his request to stop the illegal economy along the trails and that legal trade be prioritized, especially by small businessmen.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro will visit Caracas again on Monday, March 20, to meet with President Nicolás Maduro, with the aim of holding a bilateral meeting and reviewing issues on the common agenda.
For now, the Colombian president is scheduled to arrive in Venezuela on Monday morning to return to Colombia at night, although the agenda could change at the last minute, according to the weekly magazine.
Among the issues to be discussed could include the progress in the installation of a binational economic zone in the border states, contained in the trade agreement signed by both leaders on February 16.
In that surprise meeting in the border area, the Colombian head of state pointed out that this point was handed over to the mafia and criminal organizations.
Gustavo Petro then reiterated his request for stop the illegal economy by trails and that legal trade be prioritized, especially by small entrepreneurs.
“What was built on these trails is a systematic violation of human rights, sexual abuse, the handing over of this line (border) to the mafia, criminal organizations and illegal economies, they made their domination on this line, it cannot go back pass, the legal business must be respected,” said the Colombian president.
