Gustavo Petro affirms that “boatmen” survived a US attack in the Pacific

Colombian President Gustavo Petro assured that some “boatmen” jumped from ships bombed by the United States. “It is known that three people died, the rest were alive because they jumped into the sea,” said the president, who published in X a map of the point – close to Mexico and Guatemala – where the attack was supposedly launched.

The Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, stated this Friday that there were “boatmen” who survived one of the attacks carried out by the United States against alleged drug traffickers in Pacific waters as part of the military operation Lanza del Sur, which is also carried out in the Caribbean Sea.

«Notice to all governments in the area. This appears to be the exact area where the boatmen who jumped from boats that were bombed fell. “It is known that three people died, the rest were alive because they jumped into the sea,” the president said on the social network public the map of the point – close to Mexico and Guatemala – where the US attack was supposedly launched.

The United States Southern Command reported on new attacks on boats who were supposedly transporting drugs. The operations took place between December 30 and 31, 2025 and left at least eight people dead.

In the December 30 operation, three vessels “traveling in convoy” were attacked. It was noted that these vessels “were operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations” in international waters and “had transferred narcotics between the three vessels prior to the attacks.”

Three men from a boat died “in the first confrontation.” Likewise, it was said that other “narcoterrorists”, of whom the number was not detailed, abandoned the other two boats “jumping overboard and distancing themselves before the following clashes sank their respective boats.”

The Southern Command indicated that they were informed about the news so that search and rescue operations for these people could begin.

The United States has eliminated more than 30 boats during similar operations in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific and at least a hundred people have been murdered without any evidence of their identity or the amount of drugs these boats were transporting.

The United States military campaign in international waters has been questioned by international human rights organizations, which have pointed out these actions as extrajudicial executions. Likewise, a Colombian family represented by President Gustavo Petro’s lawyer sued the US Government for the death of a fisherman who, they noted, died in one of these operations carried out in September.
