Gustavo Adrianzén says that he has "expectations of continuing in office well beyond APEC"

Gustavo Adrianzén

The president of the Council of Ministers, Gustavo Adrianzenmaintained that he has expectations of remaining in office well beyond the duration of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) 2024, which takes place in our capital until November 16.

The head of the cabinet reiterated that he will not resign from the position, since he has the support of the president Dina Boluarte and, consequently, will continue to contribute to the government.

In addition, he once again referred to rumors that the President of the Republic would be looking for a replacement. These speculations, it is remembered, arose weeks ago and were opportunely discarded by Adrianzén on that occasion. In this context, it is worth mentioning, the prime minister, who had planned two trips to New Zealand and Australia, canceled them without giving further explanations.

In their place, the heads of Economy and Finance, José Arista, and of Energy and Mines, Rómulo Mucho, were accredited to the events.

“I have a responsibility and as long as I enjoy the confidence of the president I will continue to hold office and give, as I intend to do, the best of me to be able to contribute to the Government (…) I have expectations of continuing in office, far beyond APEC,” he said.

In another passage of his statements to RPP, the prime minister ruled out that the presidential spokesperson Fredy Hinojosa represents an “interference” in his work as a government spokesman.

He insisted that, according to the Constitution, after the President of the Republic, he is the one authorized to make the government’s position known “and no one else, that is absolutely clear,” he stressed.

In this context, he revealed that Hinojosa’s appointment as presidential spokesperson – last May – was communicated to him upon his return from an official mission, and added that if he had disagreed, he would have stepped aside.

“If the president considers that this is the most convenient, I respect it in the same way as I respect presidential decisions, the day I do not agree with any decision that I feel affects me or that goes against my principles I will, of course, take a step aside, but in this case, not at all,” he pointed out.
