The president of the Council of Ministers, Gustavo Adrianzencame out to put cold clothes on the criticism that the President of the Republic has received, Dina Boluartefor his initiative to debate the death penalty for child rapists.
Asked if the government made the decision to denounce the Pact of San José to implement the death penalty in our country, the head of the PCM maintained that the issue has not been discussed.
“The departure from the San José Pact has not been discussed or debated, but what our chancellor has said is that the debate has to be carried out within the framework of our international obligations and commitments and also, of course, in the framework of national legislation,” he said.

From France, the head of the cabinet added that the issue of the death penalty was discussed within the Executive. “We had talked about this possibility, we did not have an exact date of when the announcement would come out, but without a doubt this fact that we have all witnessed (the murder of a 12-year-old girl in Villa María del Triunfo) has precipitated the announcement to start The debate and political debate also takes place within the Council of Ministers,” he indicated.
“There are abominable situations that trigger reflection and make it essential, and in that situation a definitive decision is not being made, the debate is being opened. Asked if he agrees that a constitutional reform be proposed to denounce the Pact of San José, Adrianzén responded categorically that “that is hasty.”
“I believe that the responsibility that I have is not to advance any decision until the debate to which the president has invited takes place. In my capacity as president of the Council of Ministers, I would be wrong to settle a position until I see how the debate begins. ..”, he said.
“Opening debate is part of growing in a democratic culture. The debate is opened for academia, intellectuals, politicians and the media. And let’s see what comes of that, the president has done nothing more than invite debate,” he said.
