Apologies that are late
During the presentation of their apologies to those affected by the case Qali WarmaThe interviewer asked the prime minister what the message was due to arrive so late. Adrianzén He acknowledged that the statements were late and said they were working to remedy the situation.
“I do not spare on this. I must understand that it is we who direct these programs and, therefore, we are responsible for their operation. Who did not express his apologies was the presidential spokesman, Fredy Hinojosa. The current spokesman of the Government of Dina Boluarte was, at the time, director of Qali Warma, precisely during the time in which agreements would have been signed with the main brands indicated for delivering the foods in poor condition to the beneficiaries of the program. Before offering apologies for the case, Hinojosa said there was a political accusation against him, which led the journalist Fernando Carvallo to criticize his lack of responsibility in the subject.
This victimization position by Hinojosa has continued. Instead of admitting the State’s responsibility in this program, it has insisted that everything is a discredit campaign against him: “In recent months, I have been the target of an unprecedented media campaign, built on a cluster of lies And falsehoods. What is investigated in the Qali Warma case?
The Qali Warma case is one of the most serious recent scandals within the government of Dina Boluarte. Throughout the year, several educational institutions in different regions of Peru have reported cases of mass poisoning among their students, who consumed food provided by the state program Qali Warma. The first incidents occurred in Puno and Cajamarca, where students presented symptoms such as abdominal pain, respiratory distress and limb numbness. Then, in August, a new outbreak of poisoning affected 20 children in Áncash, which evidenced that the problem persisted.
The journalistic investigations revealed that behind these cases there was a corruption scheme that hid the poor state of food distributed to schoolchildren. The Frigoinca company, provider of Qali Warma, would have made payments to officials of the Regional Health Directorate of Puno to cover up the unhealthiness of its products. Evidence such as chat messages and electronic devices exposed how food samples were manipulated before quality analysis. The most questioned product was the ‘Don Simón’ preserves line, whose ingredients would have generated health problems in students, thus compromising the food security of thousands of families.
One of the key testimonies in the investigation was that of Noemí Alvarado, former representative of the company’s sales, who confessed that the beef distributed by Frigoinca was adulterated with horse meat and sent to different regions of the country. Currently, the Prosecutor’s Office is investigating those responsible, among which are included Julio Demartini, recently dismissed from his position as Minister of Development and Social Inclusion, and Fredy Hinojosa, the presidential spokesman who was general director of the Qali Warma program years ago.
