After former Prime Minister Alberto Otárola confirmed that President Dina Boluarte had nose surgery in 2023 and after speculation about a possible temporary disability and constitutional violation, the president of the Council of Ministers, Gustavo Adrianzén, came out to categorically deny any statement that suggests that the president has left command of the country at any period during her administration.
“The president has always stayed ahead of the Executive Branch and in her capacity as head of State she has always directed the destinies of the Nation,” said Adrianzén at the beginning of the press conference of the Council of Ministers.
“She has never abandoned her duties and much less has it left this responsibility of the State to anyone. (…) Therefore, we have to categorically reject any statement that seeks to lead, to make people believe, public opinion that our president, at some point, has left command of the Nation,” he added.
Later, after the press specifically consulted him about the president’s surgical procedure, Adrianzén said angrily: “I it seems low to me refer to the surgical procedures that a person could have undergone.” However, the prime minister made reference to the confidentiality that citizens have regarding the secrecy of their medical information.
