Gulf communities demand meeting with Sheinbaum to address oil damage

“The supervisory actions mentioned by ASEA are not reflected in reality. While the government talks about high standards, we continue to see spills, stranded vessels and pollution. We are not being consulted and we demand to participate in the solutions,” they stated.

The communities insisted that the Mexican government cannot attend international forums without real commitments to eradicate the impacts of the oil industry in the Gulf of Mexico.

They recalled that more than 15 million people live in coastal states and deserve a new development model that protects their territories, their cultural identity and the continuity of their ways of life linked to the sea.
