Guitar Festival in Havana will be dedicated to Ñico Rojas and César Portillo de la Luz

The Guitar Festival in Havana will be held from April 14 to 17 and it will be an event that will offer the public of the Cuban capital the opportunity to enjoy the performance of prestigious cultists of this instrument in the country, according to official media reports on the island.

The meeting, organized by the National Concert Music Center (CNMC) with the special collaboration of maestro Jesús Ortega, will have a special dedication to the centenaries of Ñico Rojas and César Portillo de la Luz, as well as to the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Nueva Trova Movement, according to a office of the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

The media reports that the concert halls of the Office of the City Historian (Paula Church and the Minor Basilica of the San Francisco de Asís Convent), as well as the José Martí National Library and the Cuban Institute of Music (ICM) will host this musical festival, which will also be extended to the community cultural centers included in the Concert Music project: closer to you…

Among the participants are Luis Manuel Molina, Yalit González, Mabel González, Carlos Ernesto Varona, Rolando Macías, Dúo Contrastes, Havana Sonantas Guitar Orchestra, Rosalia Mosqueda (lute), as well as the Ensemble Soloists of Havana and Orchestra of Chamber of Havana, led by teachers Iván Valiente and Daiana García, points out the source.

Among the attractions, the revival of a suite composed by Beatriz Corona based on the music of Silvio Rodriguez, and the versions for guitar and string orchestra by Maestro Jesús Ortega on pieces by Isaac Albeniz and Ernesto Lecuona, underlines the ACN.

Likewise, there will be the world premiere of the version for guitar and flute of the piece Cuban Suitecomposed by Luis Manuel Molina and dedicated to Niurka González, which will be performed by both artists, indicates the text.

The program also highlights the concert entitled guitar between two worldsdirected by Abel Acosta, and which will take place in the Jardín de la Música space of the ICM, where pieces by Matamoros, Ñico Rojas, Sergio Vitier, Leo Brouwer and, in particular, trova of all time will be presented.
