Guillermo Novellis: “My mission with the public is to get it out of its problems for a few hours”

Behind those big black glasses is a simple, kind and charismatic being. The almost 30 years of fame of Guillermo Novellis (62) have not gone to his head, shows that humility is paramount.

He and his gang, La Mosca, came to town to give a concert, which had a full house, which showed that Bolivians are still in love with their music.

THE DUTY spoke with the singer, who confessed his fears, spoke of his mission, how he gets along with his ex-wife and how he is in health.

_How about going back to Bolivia?

Bolivia is one of the countries that we traveled the most in its interior. The public is fantastic; yes, the height affects us a bit, one of my colleagues was exhausted. We drank coca tea to help us, we have to regulate the effort and keep oxygen.

_In terms of food, do you eat everything?

I tell you that I am very curious, but over time I have realized that changing food and even water can make you sick. Sometimes, people do not understand why artists ask for certain brands in their dressing rooms and it is because we must take care of ourselves.

In Peru I ate a ceviche. It was so delicious, but I liked it so badly that I had a terrible time at the concert. You have to have some discipline.

_Do you think you’re lucky?

Yes, and a lot, I haven’t told this for many years. Once I was having dinner after a concert and a woman approached me and told me that she was a clairvoyant and that I had two guardian angels who protected me, that she had a beautiful mission in this career.

I think my mission with my audience is to get them out of their problems for an hour and a half, clear their heads and forget about everything, since on Monday the problems come back again (laughs).

_ Did you believe that lady?

I tell you I was a little scared, it made me feel special. I did not believe him, but I am lucky for what I have achieved, to meet people and that they know me. I receive so much affection, photos, etc. I’m lucky.

I believe that there is a force and energy that created this universe, that we can call God and it has many names. I don’t know if he is a superior being, I only know that he is an order of the universe.

Do you think there is life after death?

I hope so, I hope there is another dimension and there I am a singer (laughs). With the boys in the band we say that, if we have to die, let it be in a massive thing like an earthquake, so Saint Peter at the entrance to heaven makes us all enter and does not tell us if we were bad or good (laughs). ).

_How did the pandemic take you as a band?

We had many tours scheduled, everything moved us, I hope that people realize and learn about how finite life is, that we are fragile and that we must enjoy, we must be happy. We are not immortal, we must take care of the planet.

_ How are we in health? I know your heart almost failed…

Not nearly, it failed. I had the mishap that blood did not reach my heart. Now I study every year.

Today we are mourning the death of Marciano Cantero, he was exactly my age and I began to think how health deteriorates. I was with him, we had a tour, a very kind and generous guy, he told me the story of him and his wife, who got married after 30 years of not seeing each other. He has made me value my life.

This week I have my niece’s birthday and I’m going to be surrounded by my children, my ex-wife, my family and I’m going to take advantage of it.

_You mention your ex-wife. How do you get along with her?

Fantastically good. We ended up on good terms, she banked a lot on the life of absence that I led, we were married for almost 40 years. I separated four years ago.

_ Is there no way for them to come back?

She won’t want to and neither will I, we’re fine like this. I adore her, she and my two children are my priority.

Do you have any surprises for us this year?

To all my Bolivian audience I say thank you, wait for my new album this year with surprises and special guests, like Marciano Cantero, Los Auténticos Decadentes, Los Pericos and other greats from Argentina.
