Guillermo Lasso vetoes bill to prevent improper charges

The Law to Defend the Rights of Clients of the National Financial System and Avoid Undue Charges and Unsolicited Services was vetoed by the Executive.

President Guillermo Lasso partially vetoed the draft Law to Defend the Rights of Clients of the National Financial System and Avoid Undue Charges and Unsolicited Services, which proposed, for example, the possibility of accumulating unused balance in cell phone plans and megabytes.

Assemblywoman Gabriela Molina said that they approved a text that gave financial institutions 15 days to respond to claims for unauthorized debits and three days to return these values.

«The veto eliminates the deadlines. A mockery for customers,” he said.

Collection calls

The project also offered that collection calls they could only be done from Monday to Friday, between 07:00 and 20:00. However, Lasso extended this period, from 07:00 to 22:00, including Saturdays.
