Guillermo Francosthe Chief of Staff, has been a key figure in Argentine politics in recent times. Recently, he met with the heads of dialogue parliamentary blocs to discuss and agree on the work scheme for the projects included in the extraordinary sessions.
This meeting, held by Guillermo Francostook place at the Government House and was attended by prominent figures such as Cristian Ritondo from the PRO, Rodrigo De Loredo from the UCR and Oscar Zago from the MID, among others. The main objective of this meeting was to discuss the possible elimination of PASO (Simultaneous and Mandatory Open Primaries), an issue that has generated an intense debate in the political sphere.
Franks proposed dividing the treatment of the seven topics sent by the Executive into two sessions, with the first committee meetings scheduled for February 4 and 5, and the first debate in the chamber on February 6. During the meeting, representatives of La Libertad Avanza requested time to gather support for the most controversial projects.
There was an initial agreement for the first committee meetings to take place on the proposed dates. However, not all guests attended the meeting; Miguel Ángel Pichetto of the Federal Meeting decided not to participate, and senators did not attend either, although they could be summoned to a future meeting.
Cristian Ritondo, from the PRO, highlighted that there are two key issues for his block: the reform of the Criminal Procedure Code on reiteration and the Trial in Absence. However, he expressed reservations about the elimination of the PASO, pointing out that the electoral reform not only covers the PASO, but also the financing of political parties and other aspects related to the designation of candidates.
Rodrigo De Loredo, from the UCR, also expressed his position on the elimination of PASO. Although some members of his bloc are in favor of elimination, others prefer temporary suspension. De Loredo emphasized the need to analyze the bloc’s position and seek consensus to advance electoral reform.
PASSED
Oscar Zago, from the MID, shared the idea of eliminating PASO, but stressed the importance of reaching consensus due to the political implications of this measure. Zago highlighted that the elimination of PASO requires a deep analysis and collaboration of all parliamentary blocs.
Guillermo Francosfor its part, pointed out that the objective of this first meeting was to analyze the position of each block and see if there are agreements to address the proposed issues. In statements to Radio Rivadavia, Francos mentioned that the ruling party needs agreements with the opposition blocs to approve the initiatives, since they are a marked parliamentary minority.
