The ruling issued by the Third Criminal Court, which sentenced the former Minister of Social Development, Guillermo Ferrufino, and his wife, Milena Vallarino, to six years in prison for the crime of unjustified enrichment, will be appealed.
This was stated by Ferrufino through his Twitter account where he stated that there is evidence and discharges that were not considered when making the decision.
¨Today, the ruling against me and my wife has been published. This after a hearing where discharges were made and evidence was supported, which was not considered. Our lawyers will be presenting the appeal to this ruling, as allowed by the laws of our country”, tweeted the former official.
At the time, the Discharge Anti-Corruption Prosecutor, Edwin Juárez explained that throughout the investigation it was possible to corroborate through a forensic audit report from the Comptroller General of the Republic, through a 2015 resolution, which indicated, by qualified experts and suitable, that there was not a correct balance regarding the sworn statement presented by the former minister before assuming the portfolio of the Ministry of Social Development (Mides) for 1 million 126 thousand balboas; and after this he maintained assets, properties and bank accounts that added up to a surplus of more than 2 million 288 thousand balboas that he could not justify, once he left office in 2014.
