Guillermo Caram: «No ha habido cambio tan profundo como se esperaba»

The former Governor of the Central Bank, Guillermo Caramconsidered this Monday that after coming to power of the president, Luis Abinader, and the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) “There has not been a change as profound as expected”However, he clarified that he does believe that the Government has made great progress.

However, Caram warned that public spending still exceeds the State’s current collections, so the Government’s strategy has been to acquire new debts to pay the old ones, which, although with better conditions, are still not healthy for the economy.

During an interview at the program One + One, airing Monday through Friday by Teleantillas, channel 2, the former governor of the Central Bank, said that the strategies of the Luis Abinader government continue to present elements such as bureaucracy, subsidies, indebtedness and debt worship.

Likewise, he said that it is not convenient for the Government to depend on external resources or international financing to sustain public investment because this situation can condition the flow of resources so that the Dominican State is committed to taking measures that harm other aspects of national life. .

In this sense, he criticized that in the distribution of the funds that the Government possesses, only 2% of the Gross Domestic Product is allocated to sectors “As essential” as agriculture and so many resources are directed to a sector such as tourism that grew 30 % in a producing country like the Dominican Republic with a global economy that grew by 12% in the last year.
