This Friday, July 1, the country started with closures and protests at the national level by different union organizations, teachers’ unions and members of civil society, who from early hours demonstrated to show their discontent with the 3 years of management that today fulfills the government of the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD).
The main protest was led by educators. In the premises of the National Assembly (AN) there were demonstrations where they asked for a stop to the price of the basic food basket, and to the constant increases in fuel. “Enough of stealing from the people. Jail for the corrupt”, were some of the slogans that were chanted in the May 5 protest.
Other closures and demonstrations were registered in the province of Coclé, Veraguas, Chiriquí, Herrera and other points, where teachers who decreed a general strike demanded to lower the price of fuel and improve the quality of education through adequate infrastructure guarantees. .
In Coclé, teachers met in the 8 de Diciembre park, in Penonomé, Dina Flores, teacher leader of the Veragüenses Association of Educators, said that this fight is for the price reduction of fuel, of the basic basket, improvements to schools, streets and houses in addition to requiring 6% of the Canal’s income to be given for education.
While in the Azuero Region, the Herrerano Educators Association also took to the streets assuring that we are experiencing anarchy with the high cost of living.
“The government has done nothing with the high price of fuel and at a national level, educational centers are operating with funds from parent clubs due to the lack of budget by the Ministry of Education,” said Ángel Mitre, a union leader. , by assuring that there are no appointments, construction of schools and other irregularities.
In the province of Chiriquí, educators also closed the inter-American highway at the Tole Crossing against the high price of fuel.
In Veraguas, the AEVE educators carried out a large march along Avenida Héctor Alejandro Santacoloma, as a protest.
In addition, members of the Single National Union of Workers in the Construction and Related Industries (Suntracs) and the National Confederation of Independent Trade Unions (Conusi) also held demonstrations at the national level.
