Guatemala requests DR training misleading advertising

The Directorate of Attention and Assistance to the Consumer (DIACO) from Guatemala requested the counterpart institution from the Dominican Republic to misleading advertising trainingas a result of the success that the country has had from the implementation of a new procedure in the current management of the executive director of the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumer), Eddy Alcántara, whose result has been the reduction to zero of the claims for this concept.

The request to hold the training workshop was made by the acting director of the Guatemalan consumer protection agency, Claudia Karina Donis Sáenz, through a communication in which she expressed her interest in Pro Consumidor providing training to that entity from the Central American country about misleading advertising and how this issue can be effectively applied in favor of Guatemalan consumers.

Alcántara thanked the gesture of the Guatemalan Consumer Care and Assistance agency and other nations that have asked the Dominican Republic to share through workshops the experiences and procedures implemented in the country, “which have given excellent results in the defense of consumer rights”.

He stressed that since the execution of this procedure implemented in the country in the current administration of Pro Consumidor, misleading advertising has been reduced to zero, drawing the attention of other countries in the region.

“Thanks to the success obtained in this effort to combat the irregularities that occur in the marketing of goods and services in terms of misleading, abusive or irresponsible advertising, the DIACO of Guatemala approached us to train and use these tools in that nation”, explained.

Likewise, the official stressed that in his management Other mechanisms have been implemented on vital issues to guarantee the well-being of consumersas is the case of the eradication of adulterated alcohol, injuries or deaths due to attacks with the so-called “devil’s acid”, as well as those carried out in conciliation processes.

Regarding the conciliation procedure, he said that it was delivered and shared with the countries that make up the Central American Consumer Protection Council (CONCADECO) at their request and now the issue of misleading advertising that is the responsibility of the workshop addressed to Guatemala.

The head of the entity also reported that the country through Pro Consumidor will be open to any State that requests the procedures implemented from its managementso that a framework that guarantees consumer rights in the region could be created collectively.

Finally, he said that he will respond to other requests made by other institutions in other nations on the same subject and other procedures implemented in the country in favor of consumers.

About training

The director of Pro Consumidor announced that Training will be done virtually next Tuesday the 24th of this month.

In the workshop Those in charge of the Departments of Inspection and Surveillance and Analysis of Advertising and Prices of Pro Consumido will participater, Eusebio Peña and Yeshica Peguero, respectively, and will conclude with a presentation on the subject of Dr. Eddy Alcántara.
