The Civil Police are investigating the involvement of a civil guard, who was off duty, in the death of a 21-year-old young man, last Saturday (11) on Rodovia dos Imigrantes, in Diadema, a city in the metropolitan region of São Paulo.
According to the Security Secretariat, the guard “was riding his motorcycle along Rodovia dos Imigrantes when he reacted to an attempted robbery, shooting at the robbers.” The young man was shot.
According to the police, the two men, shot by the guard, were arrested. They were on a stolen motorcycle, which was returned to the owner.
There is no confirmation whether the shot that killed the young man came from the municipal guard’s gun. The investigation by the 3rd Diadema Police Station should clarify the circumstances of the death.
The state Public Prosecutor’s Office panel recorded 34 deaths attributed to GCMs in 2024, of which 15 professionals were off duty, as in the case in Diadema.
The total number of deaths by security force agents in the state of São Paulo last year was 835, 147 of which were by agents on leave.
