Guarani chess player ready for the World Cup

Helen Montiel trains tirelessly for her participation in the Junior Chess World Cup, which after a two-year hiatus, resumes by appointment in the City of Mamaia, Romania.

Before his trip to Europe, scheduled for this Friday, Montiel provided details of his emotions ahead of the world event.
Helen Montiel, who was part of the Paraguayan Delegation in the recent Chess Olympics in Chennai, India, will be the only Guarani representative in the ecumenical event for chess players under 18 years of age, competing in the Under 16 Category in which she is the undisputed National Champion. “These days I am going to travel to the Youth World Cup. I will represent Paraguay in the Women’s Under 16 Cat. The tournament is a very strong event, very hard, and therefore the preparation is essential and intense if one wants to be among the top 10. I am personally following a fairly strict schedule,” Montiel said.

At the Chess Olympiad, Helen managed to reach the title of “Master Candidate” awarded by FIDE, and stressed that in the ecumenical event she will seek to climb the next step and reach the title of FIDE Master. Although it was a team tournament, too much experience is gained in those contests. It was a very different experience to what we are used to living”, concluded the National Champion emotionally.

Mamaia, a lively Romanian beach resort located on a thin strip of land between the Black Sea and Lake Siutghiol, will welcome more than 530 emerging global chess figures from 67 countries to compete in the World Chess Championship.
