Guantanamo accident leaves 23 injured, including five children

The lives of five of the injured were in danger, the journalist said, without providing further updates.

Four people were classified as red codes (serious with danger to life); five, with yellow code, (gravity with less danger to life), 14 green codes (observation and less serious).

The five minors, two of them aged 3 and 15, were classified as yellow codes for presenting friction burns. All five were taken to the provincial Pediatric Hospital.

There are no details yet on the patients’ progress.

The event was reported in social networks by Cuban journalist Miguel Reyes, who, despite living abroad, regularly reports on events that occur in the province of Guantánamo.

Reyes said the accident occurred in rainy weather conditions.

Of the 24 injured, three had serious injuries (code red), while the rest only suffered minor bruises.

Months earlier, another accident had occurred in the same area, costing the lives of four people (two men and two women). Another 17 people were injured, and some remained in intensive care for a time.

Among the injured were several minors, including a 10-month-old patient in extremely critical red code, who had to undergo surgery for a head injury, reported the local media. Overcome.

Last year, Cuban authorities reported 729 deaths from traffic accidents, a figure higher than that recorded in 2022. According to official data, 2023 ended with 8,556 traffic accidents and 5,938 people injured.

70% of the accidents recorded in Cuba during 2023 occurred in urban areas, mainly between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., mainly on Saturdays.
