Gualberti: "Today Jesus begs us to convert so that we are not victims of our own mistakes"

The homily for this third Sunday of Lent presented in his liturgy the image of God liberating his chosen slave people in Egypt and an urgent call from Jesus to conversion.

Monsignor Sergio Gualberti, who celebrated mass at the Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica Minor of San Lorenzo de Santa Cruz, stressed the importance of this text in the process of conversion to Christ.

“ANDhe passage from the book of Exodus tells us about the mission that God entrusts to Moses in the desert of Midian, where he had taken refuge fleeing from the pharaoh who was persecuting him for having killed an Egyptian foreman,” he recalled.

In turn, Gualberti explained that having “ua true encounter with God“it occurs only in a situation of freedom from the things that occupy our interior, taking off the sandals of presumption and pride and presenting ourselves before Him (God) as His simple creatures”.

He added that the human mind does not find a reason why the death of innocents, human evil, the misfortunes caused by natural phenomena and many other evils, coming to question us “why does he allow so much pain, suffering and death”.

The Archbishop to this points out that “in the thought of God, suffering in itself is not evil, evil is what moves evil, to hatred, violence and war, which causes hunger, migration and suffering of millions of people”.

Monsignor Gualberti invited conversion to Christ as a way to avoid “being victims of our own mistakes“.

The homily ended by inviting everyone to join in prayer for peace, this to initiative of Pope Francis to “Consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary”.

The world prayer will be March 25 in the Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican and the Church of Santa Cruz will perform it on the same day, at 12:00 noon, in the cathedral.
