Guaidó supports continuity of the interim: it is not about defending a person

After Popular Will considered the proposal to eliminate the interim period presented by Acción Democrática, Primero Justicia, Un Nuevo Tiempo and Movimiento por Venezuela as a “parliamentary coup”, Guaidó and the orange awning are preparing for a second discussion that will take place Thursday December 29

The president of the National Assembly (AN) elected in 2015, Juan Guaidó, justified the extension of the interim government that he presides over by assuring that it is a “tool” to protect Venezuelans instead of a mechanism that defends a single person. .

This argument was raised by the political leader through his twitter account as a comment in defense of the interim after a proposal to reform the Statute Governing the Transition to Democracy was approved in the first discussion, presented by the deputy that contemplates the elimination of the figure of the interim government.

After the proposal presented by Un Nuevo Tiempo (UNT), Acción Democrática (AD), Primero Justicia (PJ) and Movement for Venezuela (MPV) added 72 votes in favor against 23 in favor of maintaining the interim, Guaidó stressed that giving Continuing with this decision would imply giving ground to the government of Nicolás Maduro.

“It is not about defending a person, but about the tools we have to protect Venezuelans. Deleting article 233 of the Constitution does not generate any certainty, it would only give ground to the dictatorship, “he opined on his Twitter account.

For the interim president of Venezuela, in the eyes of the international community, the defense of article 233 that justifies the continuation of the National Assembly and the interim government despite the fact that his term expired constitutionally in 2020 is a “duty” that he intends to keep defending.

«The Constitution and its article 233 are not an option or just a strategy, they are a duty and we will continue to defend it. The people chose us for it. I am on the side of the Venezuelans and the Constitution », he insisted.

He stressed in his tweet that during the session he supported the proposal presented by the deputy of Voluntad Popular —his own party— Sergio Vergara, which consists of extending for one year both the 2015 National Assembly and the interim government, quite the opposite of what proposes the reform of UNT, AD, PJ and MPV.

Finally, he stressed that for the second discussion, which will take place on Thursday, December 29, there must be unity when making the decision and insisted on the need for the country to reunify.

“Today was the first discussion, we are going to a second in which we must pay in the unit because it is what Venezuela expects. Our effort must be directed towards the reunification of the country », he concluded.

The VP deputies considered the presentation of the G3 proposal as an attempt at a “parliamentary coup”. This reform supports the continuity of the 2015 AN only for functions related to the protection of assets abroad, maintaining both the ad hoc boards of PDVSA and BCV, as well as a commission that represents, defends and manages assets before the international community. .
