Grupo Pela Vidda continues today (6) the actions of the Summer of Prevention project, bringing together a team of volunteer educators in Pedra do Sal, a place located in the port area, which is crowded with young people and workers to enjoy one of the hottest sambas in Rio. the volunteers of the group will be there from 5 pm to 10 pm.
Testing and prevention actions are also scheduled for this week in Glória (8), from 4 pm to 9 pm, and in Lapa, in the central region of the city, on the 10th, from 7 pm to midnight. Yesterday (5), the activity was carried out on the sands of Copacabana Beach, in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro, in front of the Copacabana Palace Hotel.
The group’s coordinator, Marcio Villard, informed the Brazil Agency that, in the places, the team of volunteers promotes testing for HIV, syphilis and hepatitis B, in addition to providing information on ways to avoid sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Grupo Pela Vidda-RJ is a pioneering institution in the fight against AIDS, with more than 33 years of activity against the epidemic and in favor of the rights of people living with HIV and AIDS. The group was founded in May 24th 1989, by writer Herbert Daniel. This is the first group founded in Brazil by people living with HIV and AIDS, their friends and family. The Summer of Prevention project has been carried out since 2000.
Goals
“The objective is to talk about combined prevention, prevention methods, the importance of testing and people having a reference in the group if they need it. And, also, that it is possible to access PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis to HIV) in the public health network, and PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis to HIV)”, said Villard. PrEP is a new HIV prevention method that is being made available in the Unified Health System (SUS).
Marcio Villard informed that the places where the activities linked to the carnival will take place are still being defined.
