A proposal to reformulate the State budget for this year brought the surprise of taking more than RD$4 billion from the Ministry of Education, which has generated a national discussion; authorities on the defensive. The question evoked the social movement of “4% of GDP for Education” of the previous decade, one of the most relevant in our history, particularly due to a crowded march of doctors on Wednesday against social security. What they claim is not clear; but the protest seems to be an echo of a persistent popular dissatisfaction regarding the –private- administration of the funds that workers contribute for health and pensions. Could that disgust forge another national demonstration like that one?
