The results, for the most part, were practically predicted. Thirty-seven groups participated yesterday in their primary elections through delegates and they elected their candidates for the Presidency, the Senate, the Chamber of Deputies and the Andean Parliament.
The only groups that did not participate in yesterday’s elections were Apra and Renovación Popular, both for the presidential nomination and for Congress and Parliament, because their internal elections were held on Sunday, November 30, and their results were announced and confirmed on that day.
Yesterday, 35 of the 37 participants defined their presidential plans, since Ciudadanos por el Cambio and Frepap did not register presidential plans. However, both groups did choose their candidates for the Bicameral Congress and the Andean Parliament.
COMPLAINTS IN AP
Of the total groupsonly five presented more than one list to elect their presidential formula. These were Popular ActionPRIN, Save Peru, People First and the Purple Party.
Due to this, there was expectation to know the results.
Especially in AP, because during the electoral process a group of activists gathered outside the Mariano Melgar school, in Breña, to denounce alleged fraud in the delegate selection process.
List of candidates for the Presidency.
Ian Guimaray, pre-candidate for Lima 9, accused Cinthia Pajuelo, former president of the National Electoral Committee of Popular Action, on Canal N for having modified the list of elected delegates without the support of the official minutes.
However, the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) —in charge of organizing the elections—informed the National Election Jury (JNE) that it rejected the observations made by the JNE to the list of delegates of the lampa party.
Letter sent by the ONPE to the JNE about the complaint in Acción Popular.
“In relation to the content of this report (…) there is no violation of any fundamental right, the content of the inspection report is rejected,” indicates the ONPE document.
In the end, the elections in AP were carried out normally and the winner was Alfredo Barnechea, from list No. 6, who obtained 37 votes compared to 26 for Julio Chávez, from list No. 1.
Without a doubt, it was a result that attracted attention, because Víctor Andrés García Belaunde, ‘Vitocho’, and Congressman Edwin Martínez, from lists No. 2 and No. 3, only obtained 3 and 1 vote, respectively.
TIE IN SALVEMOS
Another curious event occurred in the election of the presidential candidate of Save Peru. The contest ended in a tie between Mariano González and Antonio Ortiz Villano, who obtained eight votes each.
The result, according to the ONPE, will be resolved by draw – by tossing a coin in the air – until December 15.
In Primero la Gente, the presidential candidate will be Marisol Pérez Tello, who defeated Miguel del Castillo, with 19 votes to 1.
In the Purple Party, Mesías Guevara got 18 votes compared to 11 for Richard Arce, who came in second place. Manuel Quiroz, from list No. 3, only obtained 1 vote.
Finally, in the PRIN party, Wálter Chirinos defeated Liliana Humala with 41 votes. She didn’t get any.
A key day that organized the electoral map towards 2026.
I KNEW THAT
-“Our officials have been instructed to challenge the results. The JNE must determine the legality of the elections,” said Julio Chávez, presidential candidate for Popular Action.
-In Avanza País. In the train party, given the resignation of Phillip Butters, General José Williams will be its presidential candidate. He is accompanied by Fernán Altuve and Karol Paredes, in the first and second vice-presidencies, respectively.
-The minutes observed. According to the ONPE, they will be sent to the JNE. After reviewing them, I would communicate the resolution to the ONPE so that the accounting can continue and the final result can be reached.
