Group of Friends of the UN Charter demands cessation of hostilities against Venezuela

The Group of Friends in Defense of the United Nations Charter demands that the United States Government desist from “all covert and overt actions aimed at destabilizing and advancing ‘regime change’ policies in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.”

Through a statement published by Foreign Minister Yván Gil, this coalition group of countries within the UN established in 2021, expresses “deep concern about the continued escalation of tensions in the Caribbean region, as evident from the increase in the military concentration of US naval and air resources in the region”, within the framework of what has now been called “Operation Southern Spear.”

Likewise, the Group of Friends of the UN, after once again and more strongly rejecting these actions, made an urgent call on the Trump Administration to immediately cease the threats of use of force and its hostile actions, including the repeated air attacks against small boats, both in the Caribbean and in the Pacific, where more than 80 people have been murdered, which in their opinion constitute extrajudicial executions.

In addition, it calls for “the withdrawal of all threatening military assets from the vicinity of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Caribbean region as a whole,” while requesting that it cease the action of fabricating false pretexts to justify a direct conflict with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, as a resource in the fight against proliferation and drug trafficking.

The group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter asks the US Government to “publicly reaffirm its commitment to the purposes and principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, including the sovereign equality of States and non-intervention in their internal affairs.”

Finally, he called “on all members of the international community to defend the Charter of the United Nations and reject any and all attempts to justify the use or threat of use of force through fabricated pretexts, anachronistic doctrines or claims of non-existent legal exceptionalism.”

“We must act collectively to preserve Latin America and the Caribbean as a ‘Zone of Peace’ and avoid another conflict based on lies, as part of the endless wars of the United States of America” – he concluded.
