The teams from the Netherlands and Senegal qualified for the round of 16 of the World Cup, Qatar, by winning over Qatar and Ecuador respectively in matches corresponding to group A.
The Senegalese defeated Ecuador 2 goals to 1 with scores from Sarr and Gueye to be the first African country to advance to the next round in this World Cup, the Ecuadorian score was through Caicedo, it is a hard blow for the Ecuadorians who made a great tournament but it was not enough to qualify.
While the Netherlands had no trouble beating Qatar 2-0 with goals from Cody Gakpo and De Jong to secure top spot in the group heading into the next round.
With these results, group A ended with the Netherlands with 7 points, Senegal with 6 units, Ecuador eliminated with 4 points and the last Qatar that did not achieve points in its own tournament.
