The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela denounced a new provocation by the United States Navy, when a military destroyer of that country assaulted a vessel of Venezuelan fishermen in territorial waters of our country.
In a statement read by Foreign Minister Yván Gil, it is denounced that the fishing vessel Carmen Rosamanned by nine tuna fishermen, “he was illegally and hostile for a destroyer of the US Navy, USON DUNHAN USSON, equipped with powerful cruise missiles.”
Explains the text that the war ship deployed 18 troops with long weapons, which boarded the small boat for eight hours, and prevented the communication of the crew, preventing the work and peace of these fishermen, fully authorized by the country to operate in our waters.
The chancellor denounced that those who are behind these operations only look for an incident that justifies a war escalation in the Caribbean, with a false flag operation, as American imperialism has led to other occasions.
He said that the Bolivarian National Armed Forces was monitoring the operation at all times, and registered the provocation with survivors to the area where the incident was recorded, in order to monitor and deter the US aggression, as well as protect Venezuelan fishermen.
Finally, the statement demands from the US the immediate cessation of these operations that endanger peace and stability in the Caribbean, while calling the US people to recognize the danger of these maneuvers ordered by their government, to cause an incident armed in the hemisphere.
An exclusive economic zone (ZEE), such as the one registered by the incident, is a maritime area adjacent to the territorial sea of a country, which extends to 200 nautical miles from the baseline, where the riverside state has sovereign rights for the exploration, exploitation and conservation of natural resources, as well as jurisdiction on economic and research activities.
While the State exercises rights over their resources, other states enjoy the freedom of navigation and overflow within these areas, respecting the rights of the riverside and international law. But in no way foreign ships have jurisdiction to implement control and security measures.
