Gunpowder merchants from the city of Granada are working against the clock in the construction of the gunpowder stalls that are located around the multi-stadium of this department and plan to inaugurate in the last days of the week of November.
The secretary of the Committee of Gunpowder Merchants of Granada, Anielka Marenco, affirmed that security measures have been redoubled to prevent any accident with the handling of gunpowder, this under the accompaniment of the city’s fire authorities.
“We are already organized, we just need to finalize the details, we already have the measures and recommendations that the institutions give us, regarding the opening, we are still working on that so that they can guide us, although it could be on Friday of this week,” said the businessman.

“Now they are reinforcing us more, there have been more prevention practice exercises, more demands,” he added.
Marenco, with more than 10 years of experience leading the sale of gunpowder, a job he inherited from his mother (RIP), said that this year they plan to open approximately 12 gunpowder stalls, the same as last year, to cover the New Year’s Eve festivities, which begin with the popular celebration of La Gritería, and end on January 6, 2023.
The woman from Granada assured that in previous years the installation of more gunpowder stalls was backed, but due to changes in the country, the number of merchants of this product has decreased. Currently the stalls are made of wood and zinc and will have the necessary conditions for accident prevention.
“Let’s remember the security measures, I understand a little that it is not that sometimes one does not want to sell, but if they are minors we cannot give them, and now with the prevention measures, when parents come with children, we ask them to please take the gunpowder with them”, he explains.

Marenco assured that this year they maintain good expectations regarding the commercialization of gunpowder compared to last year, due to the fact that the same prices are maintained in most of the gunpowder products due to the demand and the strong supply of the same, since in 2021 the products became scarce.
“Compared to last year when there was a shortage of product, which did not enter Nicaragua, this year we are supplied, the price is maintained, there are products that came cheaper than last year, when there were none,” he added.
Pay attention to the emergency call
The director of the Red CrossGranada subsidiary, Ernesto Gonzalo, said that they will continue to work 24 hours a day with a team of six people to provide coverage for the December holidays this year.
The Cruzrojista stated that they do not have the personnel to attend the gunpowder posts all the time, however, they will continue to be on “alert” for any emergency call that requires their collaboration.
“We will be vigilant in the preventive part, but we hope that everything will be normal, calm, nothing to regret, no victims and call on parents to be very careful when handling gunpowder in their children,” Gonzalo recalled.
The Granada Branch Red Cross provided the number 7652-3325 in case of any emergency that arises in the city. An attempt was made to find out about the emergency plan designed by the institutional commission, including the general directorate of firefighters, meritorious Fire Department, unified firefighters, mayor’s office, among other institutions, but it was not possible.
