Playing in front of their fans, the team led by coach Renato Gaúcho was very effective in the attack and had the opportunity to open the scoring in the 17th minute with a penalty kick by Luis Suárez. However, goalkeeper Douglas Dias jumped right and caught the finish from the Uruguayan top scorer.
The missed opportunity did not diminish Grêmio’s momentum, which continued to create opportunities and managed to open the scoring just before the break. In the 47th minute, Cristaldo lifted the ball in the area with a free kick and Bruno Alves headed it in.
The second half began with the redemption of Luis Suárez. In the 10th minute, the Uruguayan managed to extend the advantage of Tricolor, which even increased the score at 27 with Ferreira.
Now, Grêmio awaits the end of the second phase of the national competition to know its next opponents, in a draw to be held later. The third phase of the competition also includes the participation of teams that managed to qualify directly for this stage: Flamengo, Palmeiras, Corinthians, Fluminense, Atlético-MG, Athletico-PR, Fortaleza, Internacional, Cruzeiro, Paysandu, Sport and São Paulo.
