The Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM) is the only one – in addition to the predominant Morena – that during the past year increased its number of members, going from 592,417 to 778,630, that is, an increase of 31 percent.
The database of the National Electoral Institute (INE) reveals that the other political forces retreated, as is the case of the Labor Party, also an ally of Morena, with a loss of around 67,993 registered voters, equivalent to 14 percent of the registered register.
In turn, Movimiento Ciudadano reported 384 thousand 5, and now the preliminary sum is 362 thousand 783.
As reported last Sunday in this newspaper, the cherry party went from 2.3 to 11.5 million members, while the PRI started the year with 1.4 million and now has approximately 940,000. The PAN had 277,665 and now reports 275,644.
The numbers of all political institutes are dynamic, because the INE constantly updates the registers according to the registrations and cancellations not only made known by them, but also by agreements and sentences of the electoral authorities, as well as by the contrast of all the registers, since only the most recent registration of citizenship is valid.
In the case of the PVEM, the public document (consulted on the INE website, in the section on political actors) reveals that its strongholds persist in San Luis Potosí, where it has 147,189 members, followed by the state of Mexico, with 93,908; Chiapas, 79 thousand 135; Guanajuato, 43,700, and Mexico City, 43,136.
In turn, the PT has greater roots –according to the number of affiliations– in the state of Mexico, with 34,220; Michoacán, 29 thousand 24, and Guerrero, 25 thousand.
In the work of updating the registers, the INE has a section available to all citizens to know whether or not the person is affiliated with a party; All you have to do is enter the voter code contained in the voting card and the respective information appears automatically.
On this same site (www.ine.mx) you can also correct personal data or ask the political party to cancel your registration.
In the second quarter of next year, the Directorate of Prerogatives and Political Parties will review all the registers, especially to detect possible duplications and, as mentioned, to determine which political institute a certain affiliation is validated for.
In 2024, the PRD lost its registration, which in its last year of membership validity appeared with 999,249 members.
In the first months of 2026, the General Council of the INE will determine whether to grant new registrations to groups that are currently in the process of holding assemblies and registering supporters. They require at least 256,030 members, all validated by the electoral authority.
Either the current parties and eventually the new ones will share a general pool of public financing of 7,737 million pesos.
