Green Alert issued for the entire Panamanian territory due to the passage of Tropical Wave #9

The National Civil Protection System (SINAPROC) raises the Green Alert for all provinces and regions of the Panamanian territory, starting at 5:00 pm this Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

This preventive measure obeys the technical-scientific criteria of the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (IMHPA), which refers to the possible effects of the passage of tropical wave #9, which could activate atmospheric systems (intertropical convergence zone , low pressure systems and others), increasing rains and storms.
The IMHPA warns that for the following hours rainfall amounts could increase significantly throughout the country.
The probable rainfall accumulations over the country could range between 100 mm per day. (one liter of water per square meter), increasing risk levels and impacts on the most vulnerable areas.
Special surveillance is maintained in the mountainous sector of Coclé, Costa Arriba de Colón, Panama Este and the mountainous sector of Bocas del Toro.

The COEN remains in coordination with the various local authorities in monitoring and surveillance of vulnerable areas and meteorological conditions.

SINAPROC recommends:

During this declaration it is preferable not to visit trails, mountains, rivers, streams and lakes.
Do not park vehicles, nor camp in dry riverbeds, or on the banks of rivers, to avoid being surprised by a sudden rise in water.
It is recommended that the population, especially those who live in risk areas, stay informed and abide by the prevention measures of the emergency and security forces.
