Santiago Nieto stated that if anyone has the right to use the name of Carlos Manzo and the movement he formed during his life, it is his wife and mayor of Uruapan, so he announced that he will meet with her next week.
“We are still in the process; yes, I don’t see why (not giving him the registration), the requirements of the law are met. I think that if anyone has the right to use Carlos Manzo’s name, it is her,” mentioned the Morenista.
It was Santiago Nieto himself who on November 28 announced that Grecia Quiroz made the registration request.
“On November 14, Grecia Quiroz, mayor of Uruapan, submitted the trademark registration application for ‘Carlos Manzo’ and ‘Movimiento Independiente del Sombrero’ to the IMPI. These applications are being analyzed and we will accompany their process until they are resolved,” Nieto mentioned from his X account.
The files of these applications are 3506523 for the “Carlos Manzo” brand and 3506474 for the “Independent Hat Movement”, which establishes that they will be used in political lobbying, advisory and accompaniment services in the structuring of social and political initiatives.
Obtaining registration will prevent third parties from using the image and name of this movement and the name of the former mayor of Uruapan without proper authorization.
This is not the only case in which politicians protect their names, initials and mottos, it has occurred in other situations such as with Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Claudia Sheinbaum.
