Grecia Colmenares: youth are taking steps at the forefront of peace

In a massive mobilization this February 12, Venezuelan youth took to the streets to take a definitive step towards the vanguard of peace, reaffirming their commitment to the stability and future of the country. This was stated by the general secretary of the Youth of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (Jpsuv), Grecia Colmenares, at the end of the mobilization.

“Today we are marching for a march for peace, today the youth is taking the step towards the vanguard of peace (…) peace also lies in us continuing to denounce the events of January 3, that our sacred soil is never bombed again,” Colmenares stated.

Likewise, he highlighted that this mobilization reflects a deep historical and patriotic consciousness that Venezuelan youth have today. “Today we are marching thousands of young people because we believe in our country and we are aware of our history, that heroic history that takes us back 212 years, when José Félix Ribas gathered a group of young people, who were inexperienced in the issue of weapons (…) and still won.”

The spokesperson ratified the support for the institutions and the desire for continuity to build a country in peace, but that she is also standing demanding the return of the presidential couple.

«Today we young people march because we want peace, but today we young people also march because we want our president Nicolás Maduro back. And we also march with the conviction of the future (…) we are also marching due to the efforts of many who have forged the path. “Youth does not give up, youth does not get tired,” he concluded.

The map of youth dreams

The Minister for Youth, Sergio Lottartaro, referred to the importance of direct participation in building the country that young people want and how they work to achieve it.

«President Nicolás called for something that is unprecedented, the first popular youth consultation… young people were invited to build the map of dreams. “I don’t think it exists in other countries in the world that young people can build their dreams of what they want their communities to be like.”

Likewise, he highlighted that “today, February 12, history summoned us again (…) today we fight like José Félix (Ribas) did for the freedom of the country and today we do it for our country. Today the Venezuelan youth is aware that the path we have chosen is the path of peace.

Youth guarantees joy and growing economy

The Minister of Tourism, Daniella Cabello, highlighted the optimistic nature of the current generation.

“We are here, we express the true joy of the Venezuelan youth (…) it is characterized by being a happy youth, who wants to build its country,” he indicated during the march with the Venezuelan people.

In that same order of ideas, he added that “we are a country that has a growing economy (…) that has opted for what it undertakes.”

A youth that has marked the path to victory

For his part, the general secretary of the Psuv, Diosdado Cabello, highlighted the origin and training of current youth leaders, with the young people who marked the path to victory 212 years ago.

«Here is the youth, the youth of 200 years ago that marked history (…) today this is our youth, this is our youth in the streets. Always fight and say present. There is leadership here, trained and forged in universities and high schools, in the neighborhoods and the countryside. We should feel proud,” he said.

Cabello contrasted the educational achievements in the Revolution with what was in the Fourth Republic, where it was said that it was free and it was not like that, only with the arrival of Commander Hugo Chávez was it possible.

«The Constitution of ’61 said that education was mandatory and free, pure nonsense, education began to be mandatory and free with the arrival of President Hugo Chávez. The right to education did not exist (…) here there was a floating population (…) because there was a business here,” he stated, recalling that with the arrival of the Revolution more than 100 universities have been created.

In relation to issues of justice, the general secretary of the red awning recalled historical cases such as the murders of Robert Serra, Eliézer Otaiza and Danilo Anderson, for which he indicated that “their murderers say that they want to be included in the amnesty law”, so he recalled that “the amnesty law has conditions, it has limits, it is valid, it has principles.”

Following that narrative, Cabello recalled the events of the death of Orlando Figuera, who was burned by the radical extreme right during the guarimbas, because they considered him to be a Chavista person.

«How strange that now no one did anything to Orlando Figuera or is it that perhaps Orlando Figuera didn’t get him alive. Are they innocent people who did it? Where are those who put guaas so that young motorists could kill each other? Are they innocent people who did it without realizing it? Now they want their faces clean, asking for amnesty,” he emphasized.

On the other hand, Cabello stressed the responsibility of youth in building the country. In that sense, he pointed out that the revolutionaries have a deep love for their country and that is why they defend and take care of it.

“To defend the Homeland you have to love it, if you don’t love the Homeland you will never defend it, and those who are here who marched today if there is one thing they have is that they love this Homeland, it is that they love freedom,” he said.

Finally, Cabello cited and swore with the youth, that speech by the Liberator Simón Bolívar that Commander Chávez adopted when the MBR 200 was founded, as part of the commitment to peace and the return of the presidential couple.
