Great Fair that Inespre opened attracts customer attention

It started on Tuesday and closes today; 5 types of “combos” and various items are offered

Some people come out with covers by hand, others with egg cartons and a part with legs of salami, pork, chicken, tin cans, chocolate bars, rice covers, coquitos, and even with different colorful bracelets.

This has been the atmosphere since Tuesday, December 14, on the grounds of the old Herrera Airport, on Gregorio Luperón Avenue, in Santo Domingo, where the Great Christmas Fair – “Christmas of Change” – takes place, organized by the National Stabilization Institute of Prices (Inespre).

There, various products are sold at farm prices, in the case of some, and others with such an attractive discount, in relation to formal businesses, that housewives Elizabeth Peláez and Ramona Camilo arrived early to stock up on what they need. For example, a carton of 30 egg units is priced at 150 pesos (five pesos per unit), while in supermarkets it exceeds 200 pesos, in some cases.

The select rice B is offered at 20 pesos per pound, the round beans at 80, the black beans at 60, the banana fhia at one peso, the creole plantain at three, the bananas by peso and the pound of Creole potatoes at 10 pesos.

Meanwhile, the whole frozen chicken sells for 150 pesos, the pork leg for 500 and the telera for 50. The fair is scheduled to end today, and when it will surely do so an important segment of the capital’s population and especially of Santo Domingo Oeste Cereals, pasta, vegetables, beans, sausages and food will have been supplied, among other fresh items on display.

The Government has said that, once this assembly is completed, then the fair will move to other towns in the country, so that more people have the same opportunity to do their shopping for Christmas.

Inespre has prepared more than 100,000 units – which it calls combos – to be sold for RD $ 500 at the fair, which has been running from 8:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the afternoon. It has been an intense day and the fact that buyers are practically “side by side”, shows it.

The combos that the institution has “for people to take away” are five types or formats. One of them consists of a whole chicken, 5 pounds of rice, a 16-ounce can of pigeon peas, telera, 16-ounce oil, two pasta, a punch, salt, seasoning, a 16-ounce can of corn, a 16-ounce jar of vinegar, a 10-pack of chocolate bars, gummies and coquitos.

The second has a leg of pork, 5 pounds of rice, a 16-ounce can of pigeon peas, a telera of bread, a punch, 16-ounce oil, and gummies.

The third contains a chicken, 5 pounds of rice, a 16-ounce can of pigeon peas, green beans, a 16-ounce can of corn, 16-ounce oil, 2 units of pasta, cornmeal, salt, seasoning, a vinegar of 16 ounces, casabe, 10 chocolate bars, gummies and punch. And the fourth combo has a chicken, 5 pounds of rice, a 16-ounce can of pigeon peas, a 16-ounce can of corn, 16-ounce oil, two pasta, cornmeal, 16-ounce vinegar, cassava, a pack of 10 chocolate bars, gummies, a punch and a wine.

Beyond the combos, there are different items and merchandise. The attendance yesterday was so wide, that in a moment several products were finished and the suppliers had to look for more to supply.
