Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Miguel Ceara Hattonwarned this Wednesday that the Dominican Republic must face climate change despite not being the cause of it, since the country only emits 0.08% of the greenhouse gases produced worldwide.
“The issue of climate change is not a problem of option, it is not a possibility, it is a reality and we have to face it,” he specified.
He indicated that the Ministry of Environment has a great challenge that consists of educating and sensitizing the Dominican population on issues of sustainability and proper management of natural resources.
Ceara Hatton argued that the reproduction model must be changed and stop being great predators, which is why the institution has set a line of action that seeks to turn sustainability into culture.
When participating in the Weekly Lunch of the Corripio Group, the official indicated that there is a environmental law (64-00)“which has coercion” and punishment mechanisms for those who violate it in order to coexist harmoniously with nature.
