A tragedy shocked the Ibagué community when Luz Myrian Álvarez, 61, was murdered by her own grandson, Juan David Díaz, a 20-year-old young man, in the home they shared in the Arcaparaiso neighborhood.

According to the first versions of the authorities, the young man, who apparently suffered from psychiatric problems and addictions, brutally attacked his grandmother in an episode of uncontrolled anger. Apparently, the woman would have closed the doors to prevent him from leaving.
The crime occurred on Saturday, January 4, at night, when Juan David attacked Luz Myrian inside her home, using scissors. The woman did not manage to survive the serious injuries they caused her.
Despite the woman’s desperate cries for help, she did not survive the attack.
According to witnesses, after committing the crime, the attacker tried to flee by jumping from one roof to another in search of escape. However, his escape attempt was thwarted when he fell on the roof of a neighboring house. It was then that the residents of the sector managed to capture him and hand him over to the Police.
At the scene, the authorities found the young man with blood stains, which implicates him as the alleged perpetrator.
The authorities reported that the young man will be prosecuted for the crime of aggravated homicide. Meanwhile, the investigation continues to determine the circumstances surrounding the crime and to establish the young man’s responsibility in it.
