The 10% refund for purchases in butcher shops paid with debit cards began to apply on Wednesday and will be valid until the end of the year, within the framework of the Fair Meat Prices program launched by the national government.

The Federal Administration of Public Revenues (AFIP) regulated this measure through general resolution 5330/2023 for final consumers who make purchases at butcher shops. with a debit, prepaid or similar card associated to accounts opened in financial institutions or fintech.

The benefit consists of a refund of 10% of the amount of the operation carried out in establishments dedicated to the commercialization of bovine meat, with a return limit of up to $2,000 per month.

It will be valid for transactions made through payment terminals, as well as by means of QR codes.

Financial entities must credit the sum in the accounts of final consumers four days after the operation is completed, and the detail must appear in the physical or electronic account summary of the clients, for which the agency created a new Registry of butchers.

Businesses that have the category of registered manager or are monotributistas with up to three declared employees will be automatically incorporated into the reimbursement regime, the AFIP specified.

Meanwhile, the rest of the taxpayers must register through the Registry System of the agency’s website, in accordance with the regulations.

There they must select the Special Records option, then Characteristics and Special Records, and select the description Retail Butchers – Reimbursement Regime.

At the same time and as part of the comprehensive program to promote the production and consumption of beef announced in mid-February by the Government, The regulation grants businesses registered in the regime three months of grace for the payment of VAT or the tax component of the monotax in cases in which they adhere to the simplified regime.

Consumers, for their part, will be able to access the list of businesses registered on the AFIP website, as well as the list of financial and fintech entities that join the refund regime.

Fair Meat Prices

This measure is added to the program Fair Meat Prices -in replacement of Cortes Cuidados- which entered into force on February 17 and will be in force until March 31 with 30% cuts for seven cuts in large supermarket chains.

Fair Meat Prices has a volume of 18,000 tons per month of steer beef for sale in supermarket chains with the following prices: roast, $1,031 per kilo; the buttock, $1,375; the matambre, $1,310; the void, $1,351; the skirt, $675; the palette, $1,113; and the roast cover, $1,035.

Then, these cuts provided mainly by the companies grouped in the Consortium of Meat Exporters (ABC) will have a guideline of 3.2% monthly increase until June 30.

Likewise, the 35% discount promotion is in force on Fridays and Saturdays by Banco Nación with its credit and debit cards and its MODO application, with a refund limit of $3,000.

In the last week, The Ministry of Commerce issued 769 fines to food companies and supermarkets for $806,450,000 due to various types of irregularities regarding compliance with the Fair Prices program.

The irregularities detected by the Ministry of Commerce are due to stock shortages, lack of signage, use of posters in gondolas for products that are not part of the program, and duplication of labeling, among other breaches.
