On the first day of the international meeting of the Governors for Climate Working GroupOh Forests (GFC) taking place in Santa Cruz, the governors of 10 regions of Bolivia and from other countries, exchanged the problems they are going through regarding forestry economic issues.
After almost two hours of presentation, the acting governor of the department of Santa Cruz, Mario Aguilera, was in charge of making the conclusions known.
Among the pillars agreed upon to achieve lThe new forest economy includes:
1. Monitoring and information to address the vulnerability of forests: early warning, technologies, attention to fires and deforestation.
2. Transition of the traditional economy to sustainable development (technology, research, innovation and markets for sustainable production chains).
3. Strengthen the circular economydepending on the forestry vocation of the Amazon regions.
4. Promote community public-private partnerships.
5. Promote public policies aimed at production free of deforestation.
6. Develop programs for biobusinesses for the transformation of production chains.
7. Promote trained and equipped human resources to respond to forest fires
8. Creation of a sustainable development fund for the Amazon.
9. International cooperation resources that go to actions that have a sustained impact on deforestation.
At the beginning of the meeting, the first departmental authority expressed that this reality has distressed the regions and, In that sense, it considers that, to capitalize in favor of fulfilling functions, cooperation needs to listen to the call of the states.
“An important step towards that change, that financiers respect the needs, that they accept us and know us. Let’s work on the foolishness of our people,” said Aguilera, in her opening remarks in the Exhibition Hall of the Los Tajibos Hotel.
He maintained that this is not a common event, since it is about learning about successful experiences from other regions as well as their difficulties and responsibilities towards fellow citizens.
