The cartography of the municipalities, the census form in the original language, the high cost of the equipment and the impossibility of reaching November with everything ready, these were the four conditions that the governors observed for the suspension of the census which was to take place this year.

“Pbecause the Government is not going to reach it, they have delayed, they themselves have delayed (…) they have admitted cartography because there are only up to four departments”, The governor of La Paz, Santos Quispe, briefly declared when asked about the reasons that led to the postponement of the censo.

This Tuesday afternoonthe National Council of Autonomies (CAN), reported that the national survey will be postponed until mid-2024, mainly in response to alleged requests from municipal governments.

The Governor of Oruro, Johnny Vedia, reported three other problems detected by the local authorities and made known to the national authorities, these questions also influenced the decision to postpone the census.

“Other aspect that was touched is referred to cartographic maps that they should be coordinated with the municipal and native indigenous governments; was also observed the census ballot that should be in native languages”, reported the authority that was present at that event and recalled that the other point was the cost of the equipment that must be purchased.

Santos Quispe, reported that his proposal for conduct the census on weekends was welcomed by the Government and that the decision was made to hold those days, although the dates were not defined. Quispe took the opportunity to ask the migrants from La Paz who live in other departments to return to benefit the region.

Vedia reported that the first proposal at the meeting was to postpone for a year, that is, to carry out the national survey in 2023, however, they were explained that the problems would persist and that for that reason it was decided that it be carried out in the first half of 2024.
