Governors demand that they not take away their budget

The president of the National Assembly of Regional Governors (ANGR), Koki Noriegamaintained that the regions execute on average more than 76% of their investment spending, far surpassing the Central Government. For this reason, he urged the Executive to maintain the allocated budget for 2025. However, most of the time they must return part of the budget to the coffers due to low execution.

According to Noriega, due to this high spending capacity, the ANGR has formalized a demand for the next fiscal year: “We ask that in 2026 the 2025 budget be the same, that it not be reduced,” Noriega declared to RPP.

He said that “if we compare the statistical data of previous years, how many governors at this point were no longer in office due to acts of corruption? In this case, from the generation from 2023 to 2026, except for one governor who resigned to run for the presidency, all 24 of us have given governance and governability in Peru.”

The Minister of Economy, Denisse Miralles, emphasized that decentralization will be accompanied by control and monitoring mechanisms to guarantee the effectiveness of spending.
