The Governor of the Metropolitan Region, Claudio Orregopresented during this conference the actions it is carrying out to revive the “Alameda-Providencia axis” project as a way to improve the quality of life in Santiago.
Remember that this project was presented by Orrego himself when he was mayor during 2015 in the second administration of Michelle Bacheletbut after various obstacles, such as protests by residents of the Estación Central district and the refusal of the government of Sebastian Pinera in 2019, the initiative was scrapped.

Project
Claudio Orrego specified that the project will cost $72.314 million -which means that it is 32% less than the original, which had a total of $227.040 billion- so “each ministry has to commit resources for the next three years,” he said.
Referring in detail to the initiative, the governor indicated that “we are going to clean and paint the facades and we are going to maintain them for three years, we are going to fix all the sidewalks and we are going to maintain them for three years. We are going to improve all the public furniture and what’s more vWe are going to reborrow the entire Alameda-Providencia axis. Added to this is a 23-kilometer high-standard cycle path from Las Condes to Maipú, which will go through the center. And also something very important, which is the Pajaritos knot, and the revitalization of Plaza Baquedano as we know it today. Transform it into what was the original project, a place for citizen meeting and also for demonstrations”.
According to the regional authority, the only thing that is not contemplated in this new project over the original is the public transport corridor.
“Santiago deserves that his Alameda-Providencia be a place of pride, a place of beauty, a place where you can walk quietly through the city. You have to leave quickly, you have to give it a sense of urgency, the city demands it, the city he cries and the city needs him,” he said.
Today we need to give hope to the city. 2 million people pass through the Alameda-Providencia axis every day. Grateful to authorities who have accepted this challenge because #SantiagoRM deserves and needs more urban justice for this dream to come true ? pic.twitter.com/JqqXb0kojN
