The Tarapacá region is going through a migratory and security crisis, which has caused demonstrations in the city of Iquique to ask the government to pronounce itself and take action on the matter.
Given this, it is that the Minister of the Interior, Rodrigo Delgadotraveled to the capital of Tarapacá to meet with different social actors and plan proposals to combat the problems that exist in the region.
Although the measures announced by the Secretary of State, such as a greater number of Carabineros and intervention in critical neighborhoods, did not satisfy all the authorities. the governor of the region, Jose Miguel Carvajalwas critical of the proposals announced by the central government.
“Regarding migration, it seems to me that it is totally insufficient. I was categorical with the minister: it seems to me that it is a mistake not to attend to the border, I think that is where we should mainly pay attention, it is not possible that today we worry about what is happening in Iquique, but this situation continues on the border , uncontrolled, with a significant income from many people who come to seek support, but many others come to commit crimes, “said Carvajal.
In addition, he pointed out that he informed the minister about the deplorable operation of the shelters located in the region and the urgency of controlling the people who enter the country daily through Colchane.
“Obviously, the government of Sebastián Piñera has no chance of considering an integration strategy for the families that we have and that is one of the red flags that this government takes, not having had the capacity not only to not be able to implement the law migration, but also not evaluating an integration strategy,” he added.
Finally, the regional authority expressed to Delgado the economic needs that the territory needs in terms of security.
“We have needs close to 19 billion pesos and that was presented, each of the projects that the region has, so if we want to combat the insecurity that exists, let’s talk about resources to acquire equipment, technology and there we could do an advance that, I hope, can be picked up by the minister, can be evaluated with the undersecretary and arrive at some good news in these remaining weeks, regarding an injection of resources from the Ministry of the Interior, for the region”, Carvajal concluded. .
