The peasant reserve areas would be close to being recognized in areas protected against deforestation. This is the result of negotiations reached by the National Government with the group of protesters who took over the headquarters of the National Land Agency (ANT) in Bogotá at the beginning of July.

The Breaking into the ANT facilities It was motivated by the discontent generated by the slow progress in the implementation of the commitments acquired in the Peace Agreement, specifically in the Comprehensive Rural Reform.
The negotiations took place between 8 and 11 July at the Ministry of the Interior. In this space for dialogue 31 agreements were reachedincluding one that aims to transform the way the State has viewed the protection of natural resources.
In this regard, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, “One of the agreements is in charge of the Ministries of Agriculture and Environment, which will begin the process of studies and materialization of the removal of the Second Law for Peasant Reserve Zones (ZRC).”

It is worth remembering that the ZRC have been regulated since 1994. However, the decree with which this idea took shape prohibits the settlement of peasants in these protected areas, which in the long run has resulted in an impediment for those who are settled there to access the property titles of the land they occupy.
To date, 14 ZRCs have been recognized.of which seven were approved during the current administration of President Gustavo Petro.
According to information from ‘El Colombiano’, currently also There are 28 applications filed by farmers that seek recognition in Peasant Reserve Zones, nine of which are located in forest reserve areas. In this context, the growers have expressed their commitment to maintaining environmental protection standards.
