He president Luis Abinader This Monday he expressed his willingness to apply changes to the draft tax reform and recognized that there are proposals that must be reviewed.
The president offered these statements in LA Semanal con la Prensa, when questioned about the fact that the assessment additional would affect savings as proposed in the fiscal modernization project.
Abinader said that in the coming days there should be a consensus among the different sectors tripartite meetingthat is, Congress, the social sectors and the Government, where one can really give in on some of those issues concerning the tax reform.
“When the reform (…) it was always said that we were going to go to Congress to discuss there, to see and analyze,” he expressed.
The president said that his Government has always advocated for consensus and that he has never taken irrational measures. “We have always been a Government that seeks consensus and that he has never taken irrational measures, obviously, with an enormous need for resources to make changes… to have a more organized society, the infrastructure that is needed, primary care, but I also identify that several of the proposals must be reviewed,” he emphasized. Abinader said that they are going to take these days to find the consensus among all sectors.

When asked what measures the government to pursue the evasion and when they will begin to be implemented, he acknowledged that there are evasion in the Tax on Transfers of Industrialized Goods and Services (ITBIS) in many small businesses.
He noted the implementation of the electronic billing as an important mechanism to avoid this evasion.
He also said that they are working with the Income tax (ISR) “which is also one of the taxes that is easiest to evade, and we are working in general terms.” He revealed that the Government has some intentional advisors and multilateral organizations that are collaborating with the policies implemented by their countries to improve the local system.
“It is a constant search, we see it now. We have the tax pressure of approximately 14.8, that is, it is a little higher than it was in previous governments.
He affirmed that it is a responsibility and a duty of the State to continue implementing measures to pursue the tax evasion.
Abinader stated that he agrees that we all have to make a effort to be able to search for resources that pending projects need.
During LA Semanal, the president presented the progress in the reform of the National Police. Also, the prototype of the new uniform that the agents will have. As explained, the design will include a QR code with the agent’s general data, such as name, rank, team he belongs to, and blood type, which will facilitate a quick response if a blood transfusion is needed. The agent will be injured. This new uniform would be used from 2025.
