The official reported that the “National Pact for Road Safety” It will be signed in November by the president Luis Abinader and “key” sectors of the country.
“Stopping accidents is everyone’s responsibility, saving lives is everyone’s responsibility, and that’s what it’s all about,” he said.
He considered the implementation of educational programs to be of vital importance, including 60 hours of training in driver’s education and job plans. road safety developed in collaboration with the National Institute of Professional Technical Training (Infotep) and the Permanent Road Safety Observatory (Opsevi).
Morrison noted that the country faces a serious road accident crisis, with more than 3,000 deaths annually due to traffic accidents. This positions the Dominican Republic as the second country with the highest road mortality in the region of the Americas, according to data from the World Health Organization (WHO).
He specified that 84.7% of fatal victims are pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists, and that the majority of these accidents occur on the country’s main roads and highways.

Morrison stated that in the National District and Santo Domingo more than 3 million trips are made daily, of which 36% are made by public transportation, with more than 20,000 low-capacity units.
He highlighted that the country has the support of international organizations to develop and implement a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, which contemplates the expansion of the Integrated Transportation System in Santo Domingo and Santiago, with the objective of improving urban mobility and reducing risks. on the tracks.
