Government will no longer charge tax on violent video games, announces Sheinbaum

As part of the Economic Package for 2026, federal deputies approved modifications to the Special Tax Law on Production and Services (IEPS), which included an 8% tax on “violent” video games.

Although it was already approved, the president explained that it will not be applied and it will be decided to carry out campaigns to promote peace actions among youth.

“Rather campaign to young people and adolescents, because where can these types of games take you, many of them are online and they generate an addiction to the video game, it costs money and also promotes violent behavior. So we decided it would be better for the issue of taxes to be removed because they have many complications and really that there be a campaign aimed at building peace,” he indicated.
