The Minister of Transport, Ramón Velásquez Araguayán, announced that as of September 2, a new fare collection system for surface and rail vehicles called “SUVE” (Single Electronic Travel System) will come into effect. It will be used in the Metro, both in Caracas and in Los Teques, Valencia and Maracaibo; Metrobús and rail.
Velasquez Araguayan, in his social networksexplained that the SUVE -which will replace the T-Ticket card- seeks to ensure greater control over operations and the money that comes in. The SUVE system offers three card options for users, which are differentiated by the colors yellow, blue and red.
For the elderly or disabled, the yellow ticket will be available, meaning they will not have to pay the fare; the blue ticket will be for students and will have a 50% discount, while the general public will purchase the red ticket.
The T-Ticket and SUVE will work in parallel until the end of 2024, when the former will be phased out.
On August 23, President Nicolás Maduro announced the implementation of this system, which aims to facilitate access to the capital’s underground transportation and guarantee a faster and safer service for users.
“It is a fare that is more than social, it is almost a free ticket,” he said, while stating that, while it is true that an affordable price for citizens must be maintained, investment is also necessary for the maintenance of the units.
