The Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, said today (14) that, soon, the government will launch a new program to offer doctors in regions farther from urban centers, along the lines of the More Doctors Program, created in 2013 in the management of President Dilma Rousseff.
The name of the program has not yet been defined, but for now it is being called Mais Saúde para os Brasileiros. According to Costa, it will be expanded to include the training of specialists in primary care and will have incentives for newly graduated physicians to work in the regions most lacking in professionals.
“We are going to increase the service offer not only quantitatively, but qualitatively, further enabling basic care in our country, in addition to offering these doctors, returning to the level we had of guaranteeing all cities, regions, districts, locations distant countries have the possibility of having doctors to assist the population”, explained the minister in an interview to the press, at the Planalto Palace, after a meeting with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
According to Rui Costa, there is still no forecast to include foreign doctors in the program, as it was with Mais Médicos. At the time, the federal government made an agreement with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to bring Cuban professionals to fill vacancies not filled by Brazilians or other foreigners with diplomas validated in Brazil.
“The priority will be for Brazilians”, said the minister, explaining that Brazilian doctors who graduated abroad will have the possibility to validate their diplomas. “The revalidation program returns to enable these people to work, to have their training validated and to work helping to achieve this assistance [em saúde]”, said Rui Costa.
New accreditations
As early as next week, the Ministry of Health should resume accreditation of health services that are without funding from the federal government.
“We have many services created by municipalities, health units, dental units, which the ministry stopped registering years ago and, therefore, these services are either being carried out without the participation of federal resources, as provided for by law, or simply the post of health was ready, equipped, but it is not working because it does not have federal funding”, explained Rui Costa.
This Tuesday (14th), Lula chaired the second expanded meeting with ministers, this time from the social area, such as Health, Women and Social Security. At the opening of the meeting, he asked for unity of ministers in public policy and project announcements.
Still this week, the president should gather the ministers of the productive area, such as Agriculture, Agrarian Development and Industry and Commerce. Last week, the president held a meeting with ministers in the area of infrastructure to, among other topics, discuss the new federal government investment planreplacing the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC).
The purpose of these meetings is for each portfolio to present a balance sheet and a projection of what will be announced within the framework of 100 days of government, in addition to plans for 2023 and the coming years.
In the area of education, for example, Rui Costa also informed that, soon, the full-time school expansion and literacy programs at the right age will be announced. The latter should reach 100% of Brazilian municipalities.
