Santo Domingo. The Minister of the Presidency, Joel Santos Echavarriaannounced this Monday that the cameras operated by the National Emergency and Security Attention System 9-1-1 nationwide will be doubled during 2025.
At the conclusion of the follow-up meeting on citizen security, headed by President Luis Abinader, the minister reported that the surveillance devices will go from 5,200 Today, more than 10,400.
He highlighted the agreements with the private sector and merchants from all over the country to connect the cameras they have installed in their establishments to the 9-1-1 system, which will further increase security through the video surveillance system, in addition to the preventive effect generated by the cameras.
Santos Echavarría said that continuing to expand the number of video surveillance cameras is a priority in terms of public safety, and that the Government is therefore making great efforts in this area.
“There is a process to increase the number of cameras. Right now there are about 5,200 cameras in 9-1-1 and the strategy is to double that number by 2025,” said Santos Echavarría.
He said that this measure is part of the priorities that have been established to continue strengthening the fight against crime and is being done in conjunction with the collaboration of the private sector.
“It must be understood that there is clearly a two-way benefit here, merchants benefit from greater security, because they will obviously have a faster response,” said Santos when explaining how third-party security cameras are incorporated into 9-1-1.
