The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, said that there is an urgent need for a decision to be taken by the public authorities, in order to adopt measures to avoid the advertising harassment promoted by bets, the sports betting sites, in the media. According to him, measures such as limits on online betting will be adopted in order to protect families.
“Everything is being discussed to protect families [desse tipo de assédio]”, said the minister when informing that he will have, this Tuesday (1st), a meeting with the National Advertising Self-Regulation Council (Conar) and the Brazilian Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters (Abert) to discuss various issues, among them the issue of betting advertising.
The minister recalled that still This Tuesday a list of betting sites should be published which, in the coming days, will be taken offline if they do not request authorization to operate in the country.
“There will be [um prazo de] 10 days, [que servem] more for those who are bettors than for the bookmaker. This is because there are many people who have financial resources deposited with the betting house. The 10 days are for the person to check if they have a balance and request a refund”, he warned.
Fernando Haddad explained that the accredited bets may remain in operation. “But if they are not accredited by the end of the year or do not pay for the grant, they will go offline,” he stated.
According to the minister, the possibility of establishing a limit for the payment of online bets via PIX is being studied. “We will discuss this with Febraban itself [Federação Brasileira de Bancos]. I have even spoken to the president of Febraban [Isaac Sidney] by phone. Now I’m going to speak in person, so we can make a decision.”
